The UK publishing industry can be wonderful to work in, but it is notoriously difficult to get into. Most foreign nationals, especially those just starting out, will know very few people in the UK publishing world. This can make getting a job, and getting ahead in your career very difficult.
Whether you are a student, a job seeker, or a professional already working in the industry, we want to help you. ReTyped provides a network of like-minded people who are passionate about books, and create a space where people can connect, no matter where they come from.
Navigating the Publishing World
There are a lot of resources out there for understanding how publishing works, but none of them are tailored to help foreign nationals. UK work culture can be quite different to other countries’, and navigating this can be challenging and confusing. ReTyped will help you understand what salaries are typical for different job levels, where to access publishing-specific training and the general inner workings of the industry.
ReTyped wants to make publishing more accessible to all. We are creating useful resources on working in publishing, and practical guides for job hunting, that can help you map out your career.
Your Rights in the workplace
As a foreign national there may be many obstacles in your way. Not only do you need to figure out how the publishing world works in the UK, and find a job, but you may also be navigating difficult legal issues such as sponsorships, visa applications and complicated working contracts.
